My Story

I have been a teacher for over 20 years. I have worked in a number of different settings, although most of my career has been spent in the SEN sector. Though my specialism and first degree are in English, I teach Mathematics regularly and have taught Food Technology, Art, History and other subjects that are too numerous to mention!

Though I always enjoyed teaching, I get a real kick out of the affinity and trust that is built when working one-to-one with a young person. I recognise that trauma and issues outside of a person’s control can strongly inform the behaviour, the self-image and the concentration of learners; overall, my philosophy is that most people have a desire to learn and want to be communicative, pleasant and happy.

I am a specialist teacher and level 7 assessor for Dyslexia/SpLD which means I can diagnose the condition and have an in-depth knowledge of how to support a dyslexic learner. I split my professional time between working with young people one-to-one, supporting dyslexic university students, and privately completing dyslexia assessments.

In my spare time, I like to run, draw and paint, but not all at the same time as it makes a mess of your trainers. I really enjoy live music of all types, especially if it’s loud and I am with a friend who also enjoys jumping.  I enjoy reading everything and anything. Some guilty pleasures include horror films, flapjacks, making wine and dad jokes, but not always in that order.
