Brett

My Story

Hi, I’m Brett!

I’m a lecturer at Blackpool and the Fylde College, with 25 years of teaching experience and a passion for art, photography and helping people explore their creativity. For me, these subjects are about noticing things differently, asking questions and finding your own way to express an idea.

I hold a BA (Hons) and a master’s degree with Distinction in Photography from the University of Lancashire. Throughout my career, I’ve taught Art and Design, Photography and Art History, working with learners from Level 1, including those with special educational needs, through to Level 5. I’ve also taught Level 2 Key Skills, supporting learners to build skills they can use in education and everyday life.

Alongside teaching, I’m an active creative practitioner and regularly exhibit my photographic and printed work. My research explores how climate change is affecting coastal sea defences around the British Isles, and I share these projects through research seminars. Living and working on the Fylde Coast makes this a particularly interesting subject to explore!

I enjoy bringing that connection between creativity and the world around us into my teaching. Whether a learner is discovering a new interest or developing an existing talent, my aim is to help them build confidence, explore their ideas and feel proud of what they create.
