My Story

Hi, I’m Lou!

I’m a qualified secondary teacher with a degree in Physics from St Hilda’s College, Oxford, and a PGCE from St Martin’s College, Lancaster. I spent 11 years teaching Physics and Science at Thirsk School in North Yorkshire, supporting students through GCSE and A-level study.

Physics is a subject that encourages us to ask questions about how the world works, and I enjoy helping students make sense of ideas that can initially seem complicated. My aim is to explain concepts clearly, break problems into manageable steps and help learners develop the understanding they need to approach questions with confidence.

I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and talking through anything they find difficult. Whether we’re strengthening the foundations, exploring a challenging topic or practising how to apply knowledge, I aim to make learning encouraging, purposeful and rewarding.

After taking time away from teaching to raise my family, I’m looking forward to returning to education and sharing my subject knowledge and classroom experience through tutoring. As a mum of two teenagers, I also appreciate how much young people have to navigate and the value of patient, supportive encouragement.

Above all, I want to help students recognise what they can achieve, feel proud of their progress and discover the satisfaction of understanding something that once felt difficult.
