Hi, I’m Greg!

I’m a Functional Skills tutor specialising in practical English and Maths. My teaching focuses on helping learners develop secure understanding, apply their skills confidently and recognise how their learning connects to everyday life, further education and employment.

I use practical activities and real-world examples to make challenging topics accessible and meaningful. My approach is to break learning into manageable steps, build on existing knowledge and give students opportunities to practise and develop independence. I recognise that every learner has a different starting point, so I adapt my explanations and activities to their individual needs.

My own experience of finding conventional education challenging has shaped the way I teach. I understand how frustration and self-doubt can affect learning, and I work to create a calm, respectful environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying again. I want learners to experience success, recognise their progress and grow in confidence as they prepare for assessments and life beyond them.

Alongside tutoring, I’ve helped establish and develop educational programmes in the Middle East, working with key stakeholders to create learning opportunities. My wider career has included leading my own company, working closely with the UK and European Space Agencies, and speaking at major events about space technology. These experiences give me a wealth of practical examples to bring into lessons, particularly around communication, problem-solving and using Maths in the workplace.

Outside work, I’m a qualified pilot and enjoy flying PA-28 aircraft. Flying involves careful preparation, clear thinking and continuous learning, qualities I value in my teaching too.

Above all, I aim to help every learner develop useful skills, greater independence and confidence in their ability to achieve.
