Hi, I’m Jan!

I’m a psychology graduate and tutor who enjoys helping young people develop their knowledge, confidence and ability to think independently. I have a particular interest in history and geography, and I use these subjects to create engaging lessons that encourage curiosity, discussion and a deeper understanding of the world.

My lessons bring together subject knowledge and opportunities to strengthen essential learning skills. Through reading, comprehension exercises, discussion and written tasks, I encourage students to explore information carefully, explain their ideas and support their answers with evidence. I enjoy using interesting places, historical events and different perspectives to give learning a meaningful context.

My professional background includes working with charities and governing bodies to improve animal wellbeing by positively influencing the people who care for them. This experience gives me practical examples to draw on when exploring topics such as responsibility, human behaviour and our relationship with the environment.

My approach is thoughtful, supportive and encouraging. I aim to make students feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their ideas, while providing clear explanations and purposeful activities that help them move forward. Above all, I want each learner to build confidence in their abilities, take pride in their progress and develop an interest in learning that extends beyond our lessons.
