Hello

I’m Chris, Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead at Lytham Tutors. I make sure our pupils feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. I also oversee our exam entries and help ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. I’ve worked in alternative education for many years and care deeply about helping young people re-engage with learning.

My Story

I studied Music and Religious Studies at the University of Wales, Bangor, graduating with a 2:2. My academic focus in music centred on the relationship between language and music, while my theological specialisms included Church History, the Gospel of St. John, and Jewish beliefs and practices. I went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Music at the University of Cumbria, gaining QTS in July 2011.

With over 15 years of teaching experience, I have worked across a wide range of educational settings, including mainstream secondary schools, a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), a post-18 college for young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), working for a supply teaching agency and several specialist tutoring companies. I now lead the Safeguarding Team at Lytham Tutors, drawing on my diverse background to support students with a wide range of learning needs.  I am also the exams officer at Lytham Tutors.

I have calculated that, over my 15-year career, I have taught over 15,000 students, one of whom happens to be the Director of Lytham Tutors (yes - he got a 9 in the subject that I taught him!).

I hold a Diploma in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and am committed to ongoing professional development, particularly in the area of neurodiversity and inclusive education.

Outside of my educational work, I am an accomplished musician. I regularly play the organ at local churches and serve as Director of Music at two Church of England parishes in West Lancashire.

My current research interests include the work of Barak Rosenshine and the development of effective teaching strategies for supporting anxious and school-avoidant children.
