My Story

Hi, I’m Greg,

My journey into education comes from personal experience as much as professional experience. Conventional education often expects everyone to learn in the same way, at the same pace, and for me that approach was difficult. It taught me early on that people do not all fit into the same box. That understanding is what led me to become a Functional Skills tutor. I am passionate about helping learners develop practical English and mathematics skills in ways that feel relevant, achievable and useful in everyday life. I believe every learner starts from a different place, and my role is to help them build confidence, coping strategies and functional skills that genuinely work for them as individuals.

My teaching style is strongly influenced by experiential learning and real-world application. Many learners come to Functional Skills carrying years of frustration or self-doubt from traditional education systems, and I understand that personally. I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel understood, respected and capable of succeeding at their own pace. For me, education is not simply about passing exams. It is about helping people gain confidence, independence and belief in themselves.

Alongside education, I have built a varied and successful professional career which gives me a unique perspective as a tutor. I have been the CEO of my own highly successful company, worked closely with both the UK and European Space Agencies, and spoken at major events as a subject matter expert in space technology. I have also helped establish and develop major educational programmes in the Middle East, working alongside key stakeholders to create meaningful learning opportunities. Earlier in my career, I managed four Central London supermarkets as an Area Manager, experiences which developed my leadership, communication and people-management skills.

Outside of work, I am a qualified pilot and enjoy flying PA-28 aircraft in my spare time. Aviation has strengthened my appreciation for discipline, problem-solving and continuous learning — qualities I bring into my teaching every day. Above all, I want my students to know that success is not about fitting into someone else’s idea of how learning should look. With the right support, confidence and approach, everyone is capable of progressing and achieving far more than they may believe possible.
