My Story
Dr Michael Farrell, English Language and Literature Tutor (GCSE, A Level, and undergraduate)
With a D.Phil in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and over a decade of experience in education and academic leadership, I bring a rich blend of subject expertise, real-world insight, and a student-centred approach to tutoring. I specialise in supporting GCSE, A Level, and undergraduate students in both English Language and Literature, helping them build confidence, deepen critical understanding, and excel in exam technique. I also specialise in supporting A Level students applying to Oxbridge to study English.
I aim to make complex ideas accessible, and to foster independent thinking while equipping students with practical tools for critical analysis and academic writing. Whether exploring Shakespeare, modern poetry, or non-fiction texts, I help students connect with material in a way that feels meaningful and relevant to them.
I’m adept at tailoring my approach to different learning styles and abilities, including students with additional needs or confidence issues. I understand how to balance encouragement with challenge, creating a safe space where learners feel supported yet stretched.
Above all, I believe in the power of language and literature to shape thinking and open new doors, both academically and personally. My goal is not only to help students succeed in their exams, but to inspire lasting engagement with the written word.
